On Wednesday, the Office of Personnel Management issued a directive ordering the immediate shutdown of all federal programs that "promote or reflect gender ideology," placing their employees on administrative leave. This decision marks the latest step in President Donald Trump's broader effort to reduce the size of the federal government and align its operations with his political agenda and with his promises to the American voter.
The memo instructs agencies to inform affected employees of their placement on leave, effective immediately, with a deadline of Friday at 5 p.m. This action follows a similar directive targeting roles in diversity, equity, and inclusion, though, as before, the specific programs or positions impacted remain unclear. The move also comes in the wake of an offer extended to most of the federal workforce—totaling 2.3 million employees—allowing them to resign by February 6 in exchange for pay through September 30.
The Wednesday memo provides additional context to an executive order signed by Trump on his first day in office, which established a policy recognizing only two sexes, male and female, defined by reproductive cells at conception. The order required federal employees to enforce laws related to sex-based rights, protections, opportunities, and accommodations, while also mandating agencies to take all lawful steps to cease federal funding for programs associated with gender ideology.
During his presidential campaign, Donald Trump frequently framed the acceptance of transgender individuals as a perceived threat to women, a theme that became a cornerstone of his platform. Rightfully so as well, considering that the "trans" community makes up a very small portion of the population, yet seems to always be being caught committing crimes against women. One of the more recent examples was of a "trans" inmate sexually assaulting multiple female inmates inside of a prison.
On Monday, he escalated this stance by signing an executive order targeting transgender service members, as well as individuals with various mental and physical health conditions. A move many support, considering those with mental issues including "transgenderism", really don't belong inside of our military whatsoever. Trump asserted that these groups are "incompatible" with military service, a move that sparked immediate backlash. Within hours, six active-duty transgender service members and two former service members seeking to reenlist filed a lawsuit challenging the order. Considering we haven't fully exited ClownWorld, they will probably win if they can shop around for the right judge.
