On the heels of the announcement that the Trump administration is considering prosecuting the employees responsible for the waste fraud and abuse within USAID, a former high-ranking FEMA official, who was dismissed amid political fallout over payments to New York City for housing migrants in luxury hotels, has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration. Mary Comans, who held the position of FEMA's chief financial officer since 2017, alleges that she was "unlawfully terminated from her position" without due process.
In her lawsuit, Comans contends that her abrupt dismissal resulted in her being "falsely condemned online" by notable figures, including tech billionaire Elon Musk. Musk, who heads the newly established Department of Government Efficiency, has been spearheading government cost-cutting initiatives. The lawsuit, filed in the District of Columbia, asserts that Comans was fired "without any warning" and that the government "failed to undertake any process to enable Ms. Comans to appropriately respond" to the allegations against her. Furthermore, she claims that a subsequent press release issued by the government violated the Privacy Act.
The legal filing also accuses the defendants of "falsely, deliberately, and publicly" misrepresenting Comans' actions, leading third parties to accuse her of criminal behavior. This, the lawsuit argues, constitutes defamation and has exacerbated the harm she has endured. The press release, according to the suit, prompted widespread public condemnation from online influencers, including Musk, who tweeted that Comans had engaged in "A criminal action." The lawsuit includes a screenshot of Musk's tweet as evidence. I guess we forget the woman lit on fire on the subway in New York, and thousands of others who have suffered at the hands of illegals thanks to the actions taken by this idiot. Poor her though, right?
Comans' legal team emphasizes that prior to her termination, she had an impeccable record, with no disciplinary issues and consistent "Achieved Excellence" ratings throughout her tenure as a Senior Executive Service (SES) member. The lawsuit seeks a judicial declaration that the actions of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and FEMA were illegal, along with monetary compensation for the damages Comans has suffered.
