We told everyone who was celebrating on the left that Joey Bribes pardons for Fauci and others would not stand. A pardon especially does not protect the person from state prosecutions, get ready for heads to explode.

A group of 17 state attorneys general has launched an effort to scrutinize Dr. Anthony Fauci’s involvement in the U.S. COVID-19 pandemic response, despite his receiving a preemptive pardon from former President Biden. Lawmakers have leveled accusations against the former COVID czar, alleging mismanagement and dishonesty during his congressional testimonies.

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson is spearheading the coalition, which has formally requested House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) to share all pertinent information from federal investigations. This data could assist state-level inquiries into Fauci’s actions during the pandemic.

In their letter, the attorneys general emphasized that while Biden’s pardon shields Fauci from federal prosecution, it does not preclude state-level investigations or legal actions. “As state Attorneys General, we have the authority to address violations of state law or breaches of public trust,” they wrote. “We are committed to thoroughly investigating any potential misconduct and will collaborate with Congress to ensure accountability.”

The coalition pointed to a December 2024 report from the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, which highlighted significant inconsistencies in the U.S. pandemic response and alleged misconduct by several officials, including Fauci. The report accused Fauci of dismissing the lab leak theory despite emerging evidence supporting it and misleading Congress about the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) funding of gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Although lawmakers had previously recommended criminal charges against Fauci for these alleged misdeeds, Biden issued a last-minute pardon during his final hours in office. The former president lauded Fauci for his contributions to public health, crediting him with saving “countless lives” through his leadership during crises such as HIV/AIDS, Ebola, and Zika. “Dr. Fauci helped our nation navigate a once-in-a-century pandemic,” Biden stated. “The United States is safer and healthier because of his service.”

However, the attorneys general argue that Biden’s pardon undermines accountability. “President Biden’s blanket pardon of Dr. Fauci is a blatant attempt to obstruct justice,” said Attorney General Wilson. “If our investigations uncover violations of state law, we will not hesitate to pursue appropriate legal action.”

While the pardon protects Fauci from federal charges, it does not extend to state-level prosecutions. The attorneys general underscored this distinction in their letter, stating, “President Biden’s sweeping pardon shields Dr. Fauci from federal prosecution, but it does not prevent states from pursuing their own legal actions.”

The coalition has called on Congress to provide any findings that could aid state investigations and potential prosecutions. They reiterated their dedication to upholding public trust, ensuring transparency, and preventing similar failures in future public health emergencies. “We remain steadfast in our commitment to justice and accountability,” the letter concluded.
